What to Expect as a New Client
How to Succeed at overcoming anxiety
The three greatest factors that will determine your likelihood of successfully using our work together to overcome anxiety are:
You are truly motivated to leave your anxiety behind. Many times we are bothered by a problem, like anxiety, but beneath the surface we may have mixed feelings, and some concerns, about what might happen to us if we were no longer burdened with the problem. If something inside us is resisting solving a problem, it's only reasonable that progress will be, at best, slower than if we either have no internal resistance to solving our problem or we process and overcome that internal resistance. (Sometimes part of the therapy/counseling process can be put to good use in working through resistance to healing, and getting in touch with the client's positive motivation.)
You are willing to do consistent homework. In order for you to see the results that will greatly improve your quality of life, effort is necessary not only during our sessions, but between sessions. Consistent practice of the techniques and attitudes we teach is what makes them effective. In this way, it isn't that much different from learning to play the guitar, or learning to speak a new language, or learning to juggle. Going to lessons is a good start, but success requires much study and practice between lessons, too.
The two of us communicate well about how you experience the sessions...about whether the sessions leave you feeling cared about and respected by your counselor/therapist, and whether you feel the sessions are on the right track. Because research shows this is so important, our practice at The Anxiety Treatment Center of Tulsa is to have the client fill out a brief questionnaire at the end of each session to find out how the client experienced the session, and whether anything needs to be improved in order for the client to feel more comfortable, and more on track.
Setting an appointment: If you'd like to set an appointment, the simplest way is to call Michael Posner, MSW, LCSW at (918) 830-3750. Your call will be returned within one business day, and often that same day.
Forms: Once you set an appointment, the opening paperwork will be emailed to you, and you can then fill it out at your leisure, (scan it in) and email it back before your first session.
Fees:
The first meeting (initial evaluation/assessment) lasts a full hour, and the fee is $145. (There is no additional fee for the initial consultation. The fee is the same as for any other individual session.)
Individual Sessions: Meetings are 50 minutes, and the fee per session is $145.
Individual Double Session: The fee for a double session is simply twice the rate of a single session, or $290. (Double sessions are good for those who feel rushed by a 50 minute session.)
Group session: The fee per 75 minute group session, when a group is available, is $65 per person.
Payment: Payment is due before each session. A PayPal invoice emailed to you is the standard way billing is arranged.
Insurance: The Anxiety Treatment of Center of Tulsa does not accept insurance as payment, nor do we bill insurance companies—and we're considered out-of-network for all insurance purposes. This means we do not participate in any insurance company panels, and we are not providers for Medicare or Medicaid or any other government program. The client is responsible to pay for services at each session.
